The evening opens with the neoclassical elegance of Prokofiev's Sonata for Two Violins, a work that, while following traditional forms, is imbued with his unmistakable rhythmic and harmonic style. This is followed by the Sonata for Two Violins by the legendary violinist and composer Eugène Ysaÿe, a masterpiece that highlights the technical and expressive mastery of the performers. We will then delve into the intimate and lyrical dialogue of Bohuslav Martinů's Three Madrigals for Violin and Viola, a tribute to ancient forms filtered through twentieth-century sensibility. Tension and passion will rise with the iconic Passacaglia by Handel-Halvorsen, a piece that, starting from a theme by Handel, transforms into a virtuosic challenge for violin and viola. The concert will conclude with the sensual and melancholic rhythm of Astor Piazzolla's Histoire du Tango, where the violin and guitar come together to tell the story of this dance from its origins in brothels to the height of its fame. A programme built around the skill of our extraordinary performers, Leonardo Spinedi on violin and guitar and Maria Teresa De Sanio on violin and viola: two musicians for four instruments.
