Ascanio Celestini recounts his father's story of the day Rome was liberated. His father, Nino, was an eyewitness to the bombing of the Roman neighbourhood of San Lorenzo as a child, and he recounts the horror of torn people, ruins and sizzling power lines. The book also includes the tragicomic story of the Brainwashed by War, who aged overnight and shoots at Nino for picking up an onion from the rubble of the street.
