Karen made an indefatigable contribution to the development of the institute over more than three decades—the 70s, 80s, 90s, and into the early 00s—representing a significant chapter in the institute's history. Many of the initiatives, projects, and values that still characterise the institute bear the marks of Karen’s commitment and diligence. Thank you for everything, Karen! The institute sends its warmest thoughts to her family and loved ones. The funeral will take place at the Cathedral, Piazza Domenico Bastianini, Tuscania (VT) on Tuesday 11 August at 11:00.

Many congratulations to historian and PhD student Christian Hjorth Bagger, who is this year's recipient of Her Royal Highness Princess Margrethe's Grant for Scientific Studies at the Danish Institute in Rome. The purpose of the grant is to enable qualified individuals to carry out scientific studies at the Danish Institute in Rome within the fields of classical archaeology, history, and classical and Romance languages.

In 2025, the department received a prestigious and generous gift in the form of an extensive collection of music literature. Musicologist John Bergsagel has donated his large and exceptionally versatile book collection to the department, which will now become part of the departmental library.

The collection contains a wide selection of music literature, including song and sheet music catalogues, works on music theory, musical aesthetics and music history, as well as specialised studies in both early and later European music. The material reflects a lifetime of research, teaching and engagement in the world of music and constitutes a valuable resource for the institute's researchers, fellows and guests.

John Bergsagel is an internationally recognised musicologist and professor emeritus at the University of Copenhagen. Throughout his career, he has made significant contributions to the research of early music and has been of great importance to the study of music history. With this donation, his academic legacy is carried forward in an environment where music, art and humanistic research meet.
